Overview
Terry Pratchett’s three Johnny Maxwell novels leave the Discworld for a very ordinary English town, Blackbury, in the early 1990s. Johnny is a twelve-year-old nobody special, with parents going through “Trying Times” and a gang of friends as unremarkable as he is, who keeps noticing things no one else does: the aliens in his computer game who want to surrender, the dead in the local cemetery who want to stop it being sold, and a confused bag lady whose shopping trolley travels through time. Comic and humane, the books use those fantastical premises to look at war, death, history and responsibility.
