Overview
The Corax Trilogy is a completed grimdark fantasy trilogy by K. J. Parker (the pen name of British author Tom Holt), published across 2023 by Orbit. It follows Saevus Corax, a battlefield scavenger whose trade is stripping weapons, armour, and valuables from the dead once a war's fighting ends -- a grim, self-taught profession he treats as an ordinary business, even as it repeatedly pulls him into the mercenary politics, sieges, and moral compromises of the wider war around him.
Saevus Corax Deals with the Dead opens with a catastrophic military defeat that leaves an entire army's worth of salvage for the taking, drawing Corax into a widening entanglement with rival scavengers and a past he has tried to bury. Saevus Corax Captures the Castle follows his unconventional seizure of a castle to protect his own crew's access to the battlefield, and Saevus Corax Gets Away with Murder closes the trilogy as Corax tries, and fails, to arrange a quiet retirement from the trade.
