Overview
Fetter was raised by his mother to kill his own messianic father, trained with knives and a devil for company, and then simply walked away. Settling in the city of Luriat, he joins a support group for others like him, "the unchosen, the almost-chosen, and the chosen-proximate," and becomes fascinated by the city's bright doors, sealed portals that appear impenetrable but in fact let demons slip into the world. His investigation into them draws him back toward the very purpose he abandoned, and toward his father, a religious figure known as the Perfect and Kind, at the root of a much larger, unfolding crisis. A standalone novel blending myth, politics, and the uncanny. Vajra Chandrasekera's first universe in this canon.
