Anne Ursu is an American novelist and children's writer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, who attended Brown University. She teaches on the faculty of Hamline University's low-residency MFA program in Writing for Children and Young Adults. She previously maintained a popular Minnesota Twins sports blog called bat-girl.com, which she discontinued in 2007, writing that "the time has come to end this wonderful adventure." Her published novels include Spilling Clarence (2003), her debut, about a drug affecting a Minnesota town; The Disapparation of James (2004), featuring a boy who vanishes during a magic trick; Breadcrumbs (2011), a middle-grade fantasy inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's "The Snow Queen"; the Cronus Chronicles trilogy (2006–2009), Greek mythology adventures for young readers; The Real Boy (2013); and more recently The Lost Girl (2019), The Troubled Girls of Dragomir Academy (2021), and Not Quite a Ghost (2024). Spilling Clarence won the 2003 New Voice Award from the Minnesota Book Awards for first-time authors, and The Real Boy was longlisted for the National Book Award for Young People's Literature. Ursu is known for blending emotionally grounded, realistic characters with fantastical and mythological elements in fiction for middle-grade and adult readers alike.
