Freya Marske is an Australian author of fantasy and romance fiction, as well as a podcaster and practicing medical doctor. She holds a medical degree and continues to practice medicine alongside her writing career. Marske is best known for The Last Binding trilogy, a fantasy series set in a reimagined Edwardian England that blends magic with queer romance, a combination she describes as 'romantasy.' The trilogy earned her a nomination for the 2024 Hugo Award for Best Series. Her other works include the novel Swordcrossed and Cinder House. For four years she co-hosted the podcast Be the Serpent, discussing romance and genre fiction, which itself received a Hugo Award nomination. Marske won the 2020 Ditmar Award for Best New Talent, recognizing outstanding new voices in Australian speculative fiction, and in 2025 received an Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novella. She is a member of the LGBTQ community and has one child. Marske's fiction is known for combining meticulous period detail with contemporary sensibilities around queerness, consent, and desire, and she has become one of the more prominent voices in the growing romantasy subgenre to emerge from Australia in the 2020s.
