Hajime Kanzaka (born 17 July 1964 in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan) is a novelist and manga story writer. He graduated from Kobe Art Technical College and worked as a salaryman before writing professionally. In 1989 he submitted Slayers to the first Fantasia novel awards on a whim, and because his home had no telephone he learned the result by mail. Slayers then began serialization in Dragon Magazine later that year, which marked his debut. He works mainly with Fujimi Shobo and has also published science fiction and fantasy with Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko. His other work includes the Lost Universe light novels and TV series, and story credits on manga such as Higaeri Quest. He later served as a judge for the Fantasia awards. Slayers is his best-known work and the basis for anime series, OVAs, films and manga.
