Rafael Loureiro is a Portuguese writer, a physical-education teacher by profession, a practitioner and master of martial arts, and a producer. He showed a taste for writing early, first through poetry and later through short stories, before turning to the novel. His Trilogia Nocturnus, a gothic vampire sequence published by Editorial Presença in its Via Láctea collection between 2009 and 2011 (Memórias de um Vampiro, Ascensão de Arcana and A Redenção), made him, in his publisher's words, a cult author of Portuguese fantastic fiction, and its final volume also appeared in a special edition. In 2016 he published Cinzas de Um Novo Mundo, a dystopian novel, again with Presença, and he has since returned with Sombra de Um Peregrino.
