Richard Swan is an English fantasy and science fiction author whose work spans multiple publishers and universes, including Black Library and Tor Books. He is best known for the Empire of the Wolf trilogy, a grimdark epic fantasy series that established him as a rising voice in the genre. He followed it with the Great Silence trilogy, a new fantasy series set within the same Empire of the Wolf universe, beginning with Grave Empire (2025), which received a 2026 British Fantasy Award nomination for Best Fantasy Novel. He has also written within the Art of War trilogy and has contributed novels set in the Warhammer universe for Black Library, the fiction imprint of Games Workshop, demonstrating range across both licensed tie-in fiction and original epic fantasy. Beyond fantasy, Swan is set to publish Infinite State, a dystopian science fiction novel, through Tor Books in 2026, marking an expansion of his work beyond the fantasy genre that first brought him critical recognition and award attention from the wider speculative fiction community.
