Synopsis
The war is over, but in the Golden Lands the peace that follows looks more dangerous than the fighting. At the capital, court intrigue, duels, conspiracies and attempts on lives pile up, while religious and political quarrels split the ruling circles. Love and murder run through the same corridors. Outside the city walls, signs of trouble are gathering: rats are leaving the holy city of Agaris, and a mysterious rider on a dappled mare is seen more and more often. The novel follows the young nobles and the old powers caught between factions as the old order begins to shake, and a long chain of earlier betrayals starts to shape what the living characters can still choose.
