Synopsis

Arms-Commander, the sixteenth volume of the Saga of Recluce, takes place roughly a decade after the events of The Chaos Balance, centering on Saryn, the Arms-Commander of Westwind, an isolated mountain keep known as the Roof of the World where women alone rule and fight. When the neighboring land of Gallos threatens invasion, driven by its heir's hatred of a realm governed by women, Saryn travels to the kingdom of Lornth to seek military aid for Westwind's defense. There she pledges support to Lornth's regent, Zeldyan, complicating her mission further. Behind the scenes, a trading council secretly conspires with Gallos, using bribery and manipulation to destabilize both Lornth and Westwind, so that Saryn must broker fragile alliances across hostile territory, knowing the fate of four lands now depends on her.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Saga of Recluce): One continuous, internally chronological world across many reading-order sub-arcs; the whole published run to date is Core Canon, per the author's own single ordered list. Ongoing; a further volume (Last of the First) is announced for 2026 and is not yet published, so it is not registered (Constitution Article 2).

Neighbouring works

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
