Synopsis

Mage-Guard of Hamor continues directly from Natural Ordermage, the fifteenth volume of the Saga of Recluce, following Rahl's ongoing exile on the continent of Hamor after his banishment from Recluce. In this unfamiliar land Rahl must adjust to a culture where the state holds a strict monopoly over the practice of magic, unlike the looser order enforced by Recluce's Council. His powers have grown considerably stronger since his arrival, but so too has the trouble his abilities and impulsiveness attract, forcing him to confront the consequences of past confrontations while training under Hamor's mage-guards. Rahl must learn greater self-discipline to master his volatile abilities, since strength alone is not enough; without restraint, his magic remains as dangerous to himself and those around him as it is useful to Hamor's rulers.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Saga of Recluce): One continuous, internally chronological world across many reading-order sub-arcs; the whole published run to date is Core Canon, per the author's own single ordered list. Ongoing; a further volume (Last of the First) is announced for 2026 and is not yet published, so it is not registered (Constitution Article 2).

Neighbouring works

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
