Synopsis
Jewel Markess ATerafin is the newly named ruler of House Terafin. A fifth assassination attempt comes during a victory parade in Averalaan, and she escapes on a winged cat and then fights a demon behind her manse. After that she falls victim to a sleeping plague that is affecting the city. In dreams she uncovers the cause of the plague and faces threats from the Warden of Dreams and from her former allies. Meanwhile her den-kin and the other members of the House must keep Terafin running without her, while the city around them is slowly put to sleep and the enemies who caused the plague draw closer.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
