Synopsis
Nearly three hundred years after Ragnarok, the balance between Law and Chaos, long kept by the rulers of Bearn, is at risk because the king is near death. The king's heirs must prove themselves through the Test of the Staves. The results show that the search for an heir must reach beyond Bearn. When the king's envoys disappear, a small secret band sets out to find the last possible heir. It includes the king's granddaughter, a knight in training, an apprentice bard, a young Renshai warrior and a thief who may be either an ally or a traitor.
