Synopsis
Colbey Calistinsson, the immortal Renshai swordsman, works to restore the balance between Law and Chaos in the second volume of the Renshai Chronicles, which follows Beyond Ragnarok. The dark elf Dh'arlo'me has placed his own man on the throne of Bearn and holds both the Staff of Law and the Staff of Chaos. He then challenges Colbey to find a champion for a single combat that will decide the fate of the world. The search for that champion drives the story, while the sterility plague that has struck the people of Midgard continues to hang over the world. The book sits between Beyond Ragnarok and The Children of Wrath.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
