Synopsis
In Bitter Gold Hearts, the second Garrett P.I. novel, private investigator Garrett is approached in TunFaire by a young woman named Amiranda Crest, who says her employer's son has been kidnapped and asks Garrett to help arrange the ransom exchange, though her superior implies he is really wanted only as a decoy. Garrett's interest sharpens after he is attacked by ogres on his way home, and he takes the case more seriously than intended. The missing boy turns out to be the son of the powerful sorceress Stormwarden Raver Styx, and as Garrett investigates he finds the kidnapping tangled up with members of the boy's own household, a prostitute named Donni Pell, and an ogre gang led by a figure called Gorgeous.
