Synopsis

Black Halo picks up after the events of Tome of the Undergates, stranding Lenk and his surviving companions on a remote tropical island after the chaos of the first book's climax, with little but scavenged tubers and each other's company to survive on. Surrounded by threats that include one-eyed lizardmen, a tribe of warrior women, and creatures lurking in the surrounding sea, the group is forced to confront dangers from without even as long-simmering tensions, addictions and personal crises among its members threaten to tear them apart from within. Lenk in particular continues to struggle with the voice in his head and doubts about whether a life beyond violence is even possible for him, while his companions each wrestle with their own demons, deepening the internal drama that the first book had only begun to explore.
