Synopsis

Calling on Dragons continues the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, narrated from the perspective of Morwen, a witch living in the Enchanted Forest. Morwen discovers that wizards have found a way to infiltrate the forest despite the protective magic meant to keep them out, and the danger sharpens dramatically when the sword at the heart of the forest's magical defenses is stolen, leaving the realm exposed to the wizards' schemes. With the kingdom's protection compromised, Morwen assembles an unusual party to recover the sword, including the dragon king Kazul, the magician Telemain, Queen Cimorene and a rabbit named Killer who has been magically altered in unpredictable ways. Together they set out to track down the missing blade before the wizards already loose in the forest can exploit its absence any further.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Enchanted Forest Chronicles): A comic fantasy quartet; Talking to Dragons was written and published first (1985) but reads last in internal chronology and was revised in 1993 to match the later books.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
