Synopsis

Darkest Hour, the second Age of Misrule novel, finds the five Brothers and Sisters of Dragons and their enigmatic mentor Tom racing against time after discovering that the essence of Balor, one of the most destructive figures of Celtic myth, is close to gaining physical form beneath Edinburgh. With the eternal conflict between the Light and the Dark once again threatening to blacken the skies and blight the land, the group must contend with formidable threats drawn from Celtic mythology, including the fearsome Cailleach Bheur, even as personal betrayals within their own fragile fellowship threaten to tear them apart before Balor's rebirth can be stopped. Their search for a way to prevent the awakening carries them across a Britain already reshaped by the old gods' return.

Notes

  • ISBN recorded is the Pyr (Prometheus Books) 2009 U.S. edition.
  • From the series record (Age of Misrule): Core Canon = all 3 novels of the completed Age of Misrule trilogy. Years taken from the author's own Wikipedia bibliography (1999/2000/2001) after other listings (a reader-catalogue series page, the World's End Wikipedia infobox) gave slightly inconsistent years for the same books.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
