Synopsis

On the island of Cilia, the conflict between the League of city-states and the dukes of the Sword Forest has erupted into open war. The League’s military superiority is overwhelming, and the forest folk place their hope in an old legend: that in the hour of their greatest need the White Queen, the former ruler of the forest, will return. Milan Tormeno, convinced that neither side is fighting for a just cause, tries to keep out of the war and instead hunts the creatures from old tales that have come to life across the island, while his father, the archpriest Nandus, rallies the League’s warriors and must fight on two fronts as discontent spreads among its commanders. Everyone is left asking how great the need must become before the legend is fulfilled.
