Synopsis

Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries, the first novel in Heather Fawcett's Emily Wilde series, is set in 1909 and follows Emily Wilde, a Cambridge dryadologist and one of the foremost scholars of faerie lore, as she travels with her dog, Shadow, to the remote, snowbound village of Hrafnsvik in the fictional Nordic country of Ljosland. There she intends to research the local Hidden Ones for what would be the world's first comprehensive faerie encyclopaedia, working in relative isolation suited to her brilliant but socially awkward temperament. Her solitary fieldwork is complicated by the unexpected arrival of Wendell Bambleby, a charming and secretive academic rival from Cambridge who inserts himself into her research.
