Heather Fawcett is a Canadian author based on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. She holds an undergraduate degree in archaeology and a master's degree in English, and before writing full-time she worked as an archaeologist, photographer, technical writer, and in theater. Fawcett began publishing in 2017 with the middle-grade fantasy duology Even the Darkest Stars and All the Wandering Light, followed by The School Between Winter and Fairyland (2021) and The Grace of Wild Things (2023), a magical, witchy retelling of Anne of Green Gables. She achieved wider acclaim with her adult fiction, particularly the Emily Wilde series, an epistolary cozy fantasy following a curmudgeonly professor of faerie studies, beginning with Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries (2023), continuing with Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands (2024) and Emily Wilde's Compendium of Lost Tales (2025), with Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter following in 2026. Her work has won the Libby Book Award for Best Romantasy and a Cybils Award, both in 2023, and has been nominated for the Locus Award, the Mythopoeic Award, the Hugo Award for Best Series, and several children's readers'-choice awards across Canada.
