Synopsis

Fairhaven Rising, the twenty-third volume of the Saga of Recluce, is set sixteen years after the founding of the town of Haven, now renamed Fairhaven and thriving under a council descended from the mage Beltur's original settlement. Taelya, Beltur's adopted niece, serves as an undercaptain in Fairhaven's Road Guards, a young white mage still largely untested despite the responsibility placed on her. Fairhaven's prosperity has made it a target: the rulers of Hydlen, Certis, and Gallos have grown resentful of its independence and view its resident mages as the last obstacle to their territorial ambitions, an opportunity made more tempting now that Fairhaven's former allies Montgren and Lydiar have weakened. As Taelya finds herself drawn into a conspiracy aimed at destroying her home, she must determine whether her limited experience and still-developing magic will be enough to protect it.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Saga of Recluce): One continuous, internally chronological world across many reading-order sub-arcs; the whole published run to date is Core Canon, per the author's own single ordered list. Ongoing; a further volume (Last of the First) is announced for 2026 and is not yet published, so it is not registered (Constitution Article 2).

Neighbouring works

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
