Synopsis

Fall of Angels, the sixth novel in L. E. Modesitt Jr.'s Saga of Recluce, follows the engineer Nylan, tasked with designing and building a fortified tower on a remote highland plateau in Candar to shelter a community of exiled women warriors who have fled persecution in the lowlands. With lowland armies mobilizing to hunt down and destroy this fledgling society before it can establish itself, Nylan races against time to complete the settlement's defenses, drawing on both his engineering skill and his newly discovered order-magic abilities, which he is only beginning to understand and control. As the threat from the lowland forces grows more immediate, Nylan must balance the practical demands of fortification and survival with the personal challenge of coming to terms with powers he never expected to possess, setting the stage for the deeper Recluce mythology surrounding the "angels" and their origins on this world.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Saga of Recluce): One continuous, internally chronological world across many reading-order sub-arcs; the whole published run to date is Core Canon, per the author's own single ordered list. Ongoing; a further volume (Last of the First) is announced for 2026 and is not yet published, so it is not registered (Constitution Article 2).

Neighbouring works

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
