Synopsis
Flight of the Nighthawks opens the Darkwar Saga some time after the events of the Conclave of Shadows trilogy, with the sorcerer Leso Varen still at large and the Conclave of Shadows facing the enormous task of finding a way to neutralize the thousands of magically animated black-armored warriors uncovered in the previous series. Kaspar, the exiled former ruler introduced earlier in the Riftwar Cycle, becomes entangled with a secretive order known as the Nighthawks, who appear to be plotting against the Empire of Great Kesh, while Pug's son Magnus investigates a strange artifact called a talnoy that hints at a far greater danger gathering beyond Midkemia's borders. As these threads intertwine, the Conclave begins to grasp that the true threat may be an invasion originating from another world entirely.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

- Internal chronology, within Riftwar Cycle: position 23 of 30: previous Exile's Return (2004) · next Into a Dark Realm (2006)
