Synopsis
A long novel about women who rule or fight, and about people who are small and ordinary. A rhyme, handed down for centuries, links the destinies of the queen of the orcs and the queen of the human world. A deported dwarf people and Masciak the Fat, an executioner's daughter who becomes a commander, are drawn into the same events. Among the heroes is a boy who is afraid of the monsters under his bed. The story is told through many voices rather than one hero.
