Synopsis
This is a collection of five short stories set within the Nightrunner series, gathering material that fills in moments referred to only in passing in the main novels. The stories look at formative and previously untold parts of the two lead characters' shared history: the difficult circumstances of Alec's early life and family background before he became a thief and spy alongside Seregil, an earlier romantic entanglement Seregil had in the kingdom of Skala, the first time Alec and Seregil became lovers, and how Seregil originally crossed paths with his longtime friend Micum. Rather than advancing the ongoing plot of the series, the collection functions as a set of connected vignettes rounding out the emotional and personal history behind the partnership at the center of the Nightrunner books, aimed at readers already following the series.
