Synopsis

Kissen is the sole survivor of her village's massacre, carried out after her family offered a fire god their allegiance and were burned alive when the arrangement turned on them. Years later, hardened by grief into a professional godkiller who hunts down small, dangerous gods for coin, she is drawn against her instincts into an uneasy alliance with Inara, a young noblewoman cursed by a minor god of lies that has attached itself to her and cannot be removed by ordinary means. Their search for a way to break the curse leads them toward the ruined, god-haunted city of Blenraden, accompanied by a disgraced former knight with his own reasons for the journey, as old wounds from Kissen's past and the volatile politics of gods and mortals both threaten to catch up with them.
