Hannah Frances Kaner was born in 1992/1993 in Northumberland, England, and attended King Edward VI School in Morpeth. She earned a degree in English from Pembroke College, Cambridge in 2014, followed by a Master of Science from the University of Edinburgh. Kaner began her professional writing career in 2021; HarperVoyager acquired her debut trilogy that November, and in October 2025 she secured a six-figure deal for a second trilogy. Her Fallen Gods trilogy comprises Godkiller (2023), Sunbringer (2024), and Faithbreaker (2025); an upcoming second trilogy begins with A Snake Among Swans (2026). Godkiller became a number one Sunday Times bestseller and earned numerous accolades: it was shortlisted for the Astounding Award, the British Book Awards, and the British Fantasy Awards, placed fifth in the Locus Awards, and was longlisted for the Glass Bell Award. The novel was also Waterstones' inaugural Science Fiction and Fantasy Book of the Month in January 2024. Kaner's work is noted for its feminist perspective and for representation of LGBTQIA+ and disabled communities, drawing inspiration, in her own words, from "the resilience of angry women." She has quickly become one of the most talked-about new voices in British fantasy fiction, known for blending mythic worldbuilding with contemporary social themes.
