Synopsis
Heritage of Cyador, the eighteenth volume of the Saga of Recluce, picks up five years after Cyador's Heirs, as the nation of Heldya prepares to invade neighboring Afrit, a conquest that would leave Cigoerne exposed if Afrit falls. Lerial, now a grey magician and overcaptain serving as a field commander of Cigoerne's Mirror Lancers, is ordered to lead three companies of troops into Afrit as part of a wartime alliance forged from necessity rather than trust. The mission requires him to fight alongside a nation he once fought against, and his troubled history there threatens to reopen wounds that have never fully healed. Balancing this fraught alliance with forced political betrothals and the machinations of a merchant-controlled oligarchy, Lerial must prove both his diplomatic restraint and his military effectiveness while defending Afrit and, by extension, his own homeland.
