Synopsis

Recluce Tales is a short-fiction collection forming the nineteenth entry in the Saga of Recluce, gathering seventeen new stories alongside four previously published favorites. Rather than following one continuous plot, the collection ranges across nearly two thousand years of Recluce's history, illuminating how the opposing forces of Order and Chaos have shaped the world across different eras and cultures. Alongside pieces such as a tale set during Recluce's earliest colonial period and reprinted stories including Black Ordermage and The Stranger, the book includes a new novella centered on a previously unmentioned, forgotten empress, expanding the saga's history beyond its main line of protagonists. An accompanying essay, Behind the Magic of Recluce, offers the author's own account of how he developed the series' order-and-chaos magic system, giving longtime readers additional context for the mechanics underlying the wider saga.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Saga of Recluce): One continuous, internally chronological world across many reading-order sub-arcs; the whole published run to date is Core Canon, per the author's own single ordered list. Ongoing; a further volume (Last of the First) is announced for 2026 and is not yet published, so it is not registered (Constitution Article 2).

Neighbouring works

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
