Synopsis
This story is set in the distant past of the Magefolk, in the lands of Aurian, when the land had a different shape and no sea parted north from south. It covers the making of the Artefacts of Power and the Mage Wars. The Xandim, a people who later play an important part, begin as beast-like horses held in slavery by the Phaerie, masters of the Old Magic. They have lived in horse form so long that they have forgotten they were ever human. Only their shaman, the Windeye, remembers, and he sets out on a quest to free them.
