Synopsis

In the kingdom of Breodanir, the Hunter Lords and their hunting dogs take game from the Hunter God's woods to feed the people, and in return the god keeps the land and its people prosperous. Each Lord swears the Hunter's Oath with a huntbrother, a companion chosen from common folk. Once a year the Sacred Hunt is called, and the prey is one of the Lords or his huntbrother. Gilliam of Elseth and the orphan boy Stephen swear a blood oath of their own. The bond they make binds their fates together and sets them on a path toward a destiny that neither of them chose, in a land where the old powers are waking.
