Synopsis

This prequel to The Last Elf tells how Yorsh came to be. The book has three narrative voices. Two belong to his parents, a man and a woman who meet during a genocide while their people, the elves, are being deported; their story is both tender and terrible. The third voice, which opens the book, belongs to one of the destroyers who carry out the genocide, a point of view the earlier novels never gave. Yorsh shares a name with the last elf but is the one who came before him: a child of a world shaped by injustice and rage, and a possible sign of hope for a world free from evil.
