Synopsis
Jade War, the 2019 second novel in the Green Bone Saga, follows soon after the death of clan patriarch Kaul Sen, when a grave-robbing thief steals jade from his tomb, an early sign that the fragile peace won at the end of the previous book is fraying. Hilo, now leading the No Peak clan as its Pillar, negotiates an uneasy truce with the rival Mountain clan even as both sides quietly intensify their rivalry, with Mountain adopting an increasingly nationalist stance against No Peak's more international outlook. Meanwhile Anden, sent abroad to study in the foreign city of Port Massy, discovers an expatriate Kekonese clan operating there under its own Pillar. When the smuggler Zapunyo begins moving jade through the Uwiwan Islands with foreign jade users, and Hilo dismisses the threat, the stage is set for the clans' rivalry to spill beyond Kekon's shores.
