Synopsis

This novel follows Jimmy the Hand, a talented young thief serving as squire to Prince Arutha while still moving through Krondor's criminal underworld. A mysterious figure known only as the Crawler has begun asserting influence over the city's rival gangs, threatening the established Mockers and, potentially, the stability of the kingdom itself. To investigate, Jimmy teams up with William, son of the magician Pug and a lieutenant in the prince's guard, and Jazhara, niece of a Keshian nobleman, and the three travel in disguise to the neighboring empire of Kesh in pursuit of answers. Their mission centers on determining whether the Crawler truly commands the rival gang, uncovering the source of his mysterious power, and judging just how serious a threat he poses to peace in the Kingdom.
