Synopsis
In this installment, Squire James and Jazhara, newly appointed as court magician, are drawn into a dangerous chain of events after a mysterious figure called Bear begins causing chaos throughout Krondor. Teaming up with William, son of the master magician Pug, they investigate escalating threats tied to a sacred religious artifact known as the Tear of the Gods, an object that lets priests channel divine will directly. When the artifact is lost at sea, Prince Arutha charges the trio with recovering it before it can fall into the wrong hands and be turned to darker purposes. The novel combines political intrigue, magic, and seafaring adventure as James, Jazhara, and William race against rival forces seeking to exploit the Tear's power and destabilize the kingdom.
