Synopsis

About 150 years after the events of the first book, the weather over Samaria is turning dangerous. The Archangel, Delilah, is hurt in a storm and can no longer fly, so Jovah names a young angel, Alleluia, as her replacement. Alleluia must handle pressure from rival powers who blame the angels for the storms, and Jovah tells her to find "the son of Jeremiah", a message she does not understand. The music machines that carry the angels' prayers begin to fail, and she turns to Caleb, an engineer who trusts science and himself rather than any god. Together they search for the cause of the failing machines and for what Jovah truly is.
