Synopsis
Lhind has gone from castoff clothes to silks and from back alleys to palace halls, but life is still hard. A prince she has robbed twice kidnaps her in order to hand her over to Emperor Jardis Dhes-Andis, the one person she fears most. Hlanan comes to rescue her, but Lhind ends up rescuing them both, and they run from mercenaries and an invading army. The strain of the journey tests their bond, and they walk into a trap. Lhind is left alone among enemies at one of the most dangerous courts in the world, where she begins to find out who she really is.
