Synopsis
Magic Shifts is the eighth Kate Daniels novel. Kate investigates the disappearance of her friend Eduardo, a case that leads her into the chaos of Atlanta's Mercenary Guild, which appears to be unraveling from within under mysterious pressure. As Kate and Curran dig into Eduardo's recent assignments, they uncover a djinn, a captive from among Kate's own family's past acquaintances, whose theft of an enchanted jewel has set off a chain of possession-related incidents spreading unrest through the city. The trail eventually points toward an old, obscure threat that predates the Guild's current troubles, one that seems determined to remain hidden even as its influence grows. With few allies willing or able to help, Kate and Curran find themselves the only ones positioned to stop the danger before it can fully take hold of Atlanta.
