Synopsis
Magic Strikes is the third Kate Daniels novel. When Kate's close friend, the young werewolf Derek, is found nearly beaten to death and slips into a coma, Kate learns he had been secretly investigating the Midnight Games, a brutal underground gladiatorial tournament operating beneath Atlanta's unstable magical landscape. Determined to find out who attacked Derek and why, Kate goes undercover within the tournament's world, uncovering evidence that shape-shifting creatures known as Reapers have infiltrated the Games and are using stolen magical artifacts to maintain their disguise among the human and shapeshifter fighters. As Kate gets closer to exposing the Reapers' scheme, she finds herself increasingly entangled in the tournament's violent politics, forced to fight her way through its ranks to reach the truth behind the attack on her friend.
