Synopsis
Agnes Nitt leaves her home village of Lancre to chase a career on the operatic stage in Ankh-Morpork, while witches Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg travel to the same city to collect royalties owed on Nanny's popular cookbook and to recruit Agnes as the third member of their coven. At the city's Opera House, recently bought by a former cheesemonger with no experience in the business, Agnes joins the chorus alongside a less talented but far more favored singer named Christine. The Opera House's resident ghost, long a harmless fixture of the building, suddenly begins staging a series of murders disguised as accidents while insisting that Christine be given the lead roles, even though it is really Agnes's hidden vocal talent that makes the performances shine.
