Synopsis

The small country of Medalon lies between the vast nation of Karien to the north and Fardohnya and Hythria to the south, and it is ruled by the Sisters of the Blade from the Citadel: an atheist sisterhood in a world of believing kingdoms, which has outlawed the worship of the gods, persecuted their faithful and driven the Harshini, the long-lived race who speak with the gods and command their demons, into hiding and, it is thought, extinction. R'shiel, daughter of the Sisterhood's ruthless First Sister, and her foster-brother Tarja, a captain of the Defenders, flee the Citadel when the First Sister's ambitions turn against them, and fall in with Brak, a Harshini outcast sent to find the demon child, the half-human child of the dead Harshini king whom prophecy says will destroy a god. The first novel of the Demon Child trilogy.

Notes

  • From the series record (Demon Child): The first Hythrun trilogy (2000-2001): R'shiel, the demon child, Tarja of the Defenders and the atheist Sisterhood of Medalon, as Karien's god-driven invasion and the hidden Harshini draw the kingdoms into the gods' quarrel.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series Demon Child: position 1 of 3: next Treason Keep (2001)
  • Internal chronology, within The Hythrun Chronicles: position 1 of 8: next Wolfblade (2004)
