Synopsis
Memnoch the Devil begins when Lestat kills a mobster whose ghost then approaches him with an unusual request: protect his estranged daughter Dora, a televangelist. As Lestat looks into Dora's situation, he becomes convinced he is being stalked by a powerful supernatural presence, and soon meets a being calling himself Memnoch, who claims to be the Devil. Memnoch takes Lestat on an extraordinary journey through Heaven and Hell, presenting him with an alternative account of cosmic history and the origins of good and evil that challenges everything Lestat believed about his own damned nature. Memnoch's purpose in showing Lestat this vision, and what he wants from him in return, drives the novel's central tension.
