Overview

A continuous, decades-spanning narrative of vampire immortals told mostly through Louis and Lestat, running from Anne Rice's 1976 debut Interview with the Vampire to her final volume in 2018, Blood Communion. Rice described her vampires as "a metaphor for lost souls," using the thirteen-novel sequence to explore isolation, immortality, and spiritual searching; the early books follow Louis and Lestat directly, while later installments turn to other vampires' own backstories, and three novels cross over directly with Rice's Lives of the Mayfair Witches. Rice initially treated 2003's Blood Canticle as a series conclusion before returning after an eleven-year gap to begin a new arc with Prince Lestat (2014). The Chronicles have been adapted twice for film, in 1994 and 2002, and AMC's acclaimed television adaptation premiered in 2022 and has continued into further seasons.
