Synopsis

The twelfth and final novel in the Secret Histories series finds Eddie Drood facing a crisis that forces an unprecedented meeting between his family and John Taylor, the private investigator protagonist of Simon R. Green's separate Nightside series, as the hidden London district's rules and dangers collide directly with the Droods' own secret war. As tensions between the two supernatural power centers escalate toward open conflict, Eddie must navigate a confrontation whose outcome could reshape the balance between the Droods and the Nightside for good. The novel draws together plot threads from across the series, bringing Eddie's long struggle against enemies both external and within his own family to a culmination, while widening the scope of the hidden world beyond what earlier books had shown.

Where it sits

Notes

  • From the series record (Secret Histories): Follows the Drood family of secret agent-sorcerers; a separate urban-fantasy sequence from this same author's already-admitted Nightside series, with its own cast and premise (occasional cross-references between the two exist but neither series requires the other to be read).

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series Secret Histories: position 12 of 12: previous Moonbreaker (2017)
  • Internal chronology, within The Nightside / Secret Histories: position 24 of 24: previous The Bride Wore Black Leather (2012)
