Synopsis
Commander Sam Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch is chasing the murderous criminal Carcer across the rooftops during a magical storm when a bolt of lightning hurls them both thirty years into the past, landing on the eve of the Glorious Revolution, a period of civil unrest under the erratic Lord Winder. Stranded with no way home while his pregnant wife awaits him in his own time, Vimes is forced to take on the identity of John Keel, a legendary Watch sergeant and his own boyhood hero, who was due to die that very night. Guided by the time-manipulating monk Lu-Tze, Vimes must train his own younger self and the rest of the fledgling Watch while Carcer, also thrown back in time, runs loose in the city.
