Synopsis
Overcaptain, the twenty-fifth volume of the Saga of Recluce, follows Alyiakal as he completes his posting as an overcaptain in Cyador's Mirror Lancers, hoping for a straightforward transition to a new assignment after finishing his current tour. Instead, his investigation into corruption within Cyador's powerful Merchanter Clans draws him into spreading danger: officers who look into the same corruption begin dying under suspicious circumstances, and rather than receiving the leave he expected, Alyiakal is reassigned as deputy commander to a remote post whose commanding officer resents his presence from the outset. Facing assassination attempts and scrutiny from the ruling Magi'i alongside open hostility from his new superior, Alyiakal must balance loyalty to his men, obligations to Cyador, and his own survival as the investigation's dangers follow him to his new command.
