Synopsis

In the sixth volume of The Wars of Light and Shadow, the curse-driven enmity between half-brothers Lysaer and Arithon continues to dominate Athera's fate, with Lysaer now commanding the Alliance of Light, a military force bent on capturing Arithon, the Master of Shadow. Arithon is forced to flee inland alone, harried by brutal winter weather and pursued by armed guards and specialized assault troops loyal to Lysaer, while his potential defenders among Jieret's clan war band are too far away and too outnumbered to reach him in time. Complicating his flight further, the Koriani enchantresses also pursue him, hoping to use him as a pawn against the Fellowship of Seven sorcerers and their magical Compact. Meanwhile Elaira, an enchantress who loves Arithon, is forced toward an agonizing choice between betraying him to the Koriani Prime Matriarch or risking her own destruction by defying her order.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
