Synopsis
Port of Shadows returns to an earlier period in the Black Company's service to the sorceress known as the Lady, with the mercenaries posted at a new and seemingly unremarkable assignment. Chronicled once again by Croaker, the Company is ordered to capture a supposed rebel leader, only to find her an apparently innocent young woman whose true nature is far from clear. Once she is brought into camp, unsettling incidents begin to accumulate: small acts of sabotage disrupt the Company's routines, doubles of the captured woman start appearing without explanation, and something intangible seems to be tampering with the soldiers' own memories, leaving Croaker and his comrades uncertain of what they have actually witnessed. The mounting strangeness draws the Company into a mystery layered over their ordinary service to the Lady, unfolding as an unsettling chapter set earlier within the wider Chronicles.
