Synopsis
The second Tales of the New Management novel returns to the Britain ruled by Prime Minister Fabian Everyman in the same December as Dead Lies Dreaming, and weaves together the stories of three women. Eve Starkey now heads the Bigge Corporation, only to discover the deadly trap her vanished employer Rupert laid for her long ago. Wendy Deere, the thief-taker, is investigating unlicensed supernatural activity, and Mary Macandless has been sent out on a kidnapping assignment. As their paths cross, the consequences grow strange enough to bend the world around them. Stross draws on Mary Poppins and Sweeney Todd for the plot, mixing the setting's Lovecraftian horror with crime caper and black comedy.
